Hip Hop Marketing 101 Overview

Image

I don’t even like hip hop anymore. I mean I used to, I don’t think there is anyone who has hit puberty in the last 30 years that didn’t find her appealing at one point or another. Some just checked her out, some had a crush, I think I was between the crush and in love zones. Her style was fresh, her humor was charming, her attitude, that sexy ass this-is-how-it-is attitude. But now, she walks around like a skeet bag thinking she’s hot shit. And I know deep inside, there’s a lot of good left in there, the hip hop I feel in love with is in there somewhere. But people change, I grew, she grew, we all move on. And move on I will but before I do that, there is one thing I must do. I must find out how hip hop seduced my mind for the last 8 years. What was it about her that made her so appealing? To people in 80s NY, people in Columbine High Schools, people in Eastern Europe? I owe it to my teenage years and the millions of others she has captivated to decipher why we all like hip hop so much.

Each month for the rest of 2009, I will review the popularity of one hip hop artist that has significantly held the eardrums of millions while we slept, fucked and ate. This series will be deciphered in chronological order starting from the mid 90s to now. Yes, that means the following are not include on the list.

-Furious Five
-Run DMC
-KRS One
-LL Cool J
-NWA
-Snoop Dogg

I apologize to their nut-huggers in advance but the knowledge of this 80s baby extends only to that timeframe. With that warning out the way, I would like to announce Tupac Shakur as Hip Hop Marketing 101’s first specimen.
